Kozhikode will always hold a particular place in Keralan history because it was here that the famed Spice Route began. This location definitely has an air of antiquity about it. The many qualities that make Kozhikode so special are personified in Kozhikode Beach.
Thousands of people swarm to the beach to watch the sunset. Fresh seafood is available in the shacks surrounding the location. Mussels, or kallumekaya, are a local favorite. Meeting playful dolphins is guaranteed if you take a dawn stroll at Dolphins Point. A stately lighthouse and two piers that lead into the ocean also greet you. Both have been here for over a hundred years. Lions Park and the adjacent marine water aquarium, which is open daily from 8:00 am to 20:00 pm, are popular destinations for kids.
People swarm to street food restaurants to experience the unique, unadulterated flavor that is unique to this place. It is one of the most beautiful innovations in the culinary world. The best site to get these treats in the Kozhikode area is the renowned Sweet Meat Street, also known as Mithai Theruvu. Originally named for the period when the street was dotted with vendors selling sweet meat, or halwa, it is now a well-liked hangout for both residents and visitors. It is one of the busiest thoroughfares in the entire neighborhood thanks to the row upon row of stalls dotted with sweets, savory foods, and a variety of other treats.
Kappad Beach has historically been significant to Kerala’s history. More than 500 years ago, in 1498, 170 men under the leadership of Vasco da Gama set foot on Kerala. Nothing would be the same throughout the entire State, particularly on the Malabar Coast.
Without a visit to this fabled location, a trip to Kozhikode is incomplete. This Beach was a major hub for the spice trade. One might get an understanding of the location’s historical significance by taking a stroll around it. Its appeal is enhanced by the little hills and rocks. Great local treats and tea are constantly available in the shacks nearby. On sometimes, migratory birds can also be seen. Kappad Beach is an incredibly magnificent location that will always have a significant role in our past.
Kozhikode’s central area is an urban dweller’s dream come true. Mananchira Square is one of the most popular places in the area because of its lovely park with lush lawns, melodic fountain, traditional Kerala-style houses, and the nearby Kozhikode Public Library. It is also important to remember the Mananchira Tank, which encircles it and has been preserved in its original shape since Manavikrama, the last Zamorin emperor, created it. Enjoy walks, picnics, or simply a quick look at the city’s rich cultural legacy from this central location.
The goal of Sarovaram Biopark, an environmentally conscious park, is to preserve wetlands and mangrove forests. This park has allowed people to feel the warm embrace of nature for almost a decade. The floating rafts, boardwalk, park, musical fountain, open-air theater, otter park, butterfly park, bird sanctuary, canal walkway, boating facilities, and aquarium serve as continual reminders of how preserving these threatened places may result in the creation of works of art. For a little price, visitors seeking a break from their daily routine can explore more than 200 acres of protected wilderness. The next time you’re around Kozhikode, Sarovaram would undoubtedly spice up your schedule.
A retail center called HiLITE Mall is situated in Kerala, India’s Malabar region’s Kozhikode district. The mall is situated on the side of National Highway 66 in the Kozhikode city suburbs, close to Palazhi. After Lulu Trivandrum, it is currently the second-largest mall in the Indian state of Kerala. The Government and ULCCS IT Parks are adjacent to the mall. “Palaxi Cinemas” is an eight-screen multiplex located in the mall.
Vayalada, often called the Gavi of Malabar, is a captivating hilltop location in the Kozhikode district, close to Balusseri. Similar to the well-known Gavi hill station in Pathanamthitta, Vayalada has a nip in the air, with mist and greenery all around.Situated 12 kilometers from Balusseri and 40 km from Kozhikode is the picturesque summit. The hill, which is 2,000 feet above sea level, is well-liked by weekend hikers.
The one-kilometer journey through breathtaking surroundings is well worth the ascent. When visitors reach the summit, they are in for a beautiful experience, and the hill station has an alluring charm during the rainy season. The atmosphere created by the rain and mist is one we would never want to miss. If you are fatigued from the hard hike, the gentle breeze will whisk it away. There are three viewpoints namely Mount Vayalada viewpoint, Islands View Mullanpara and Kottakunnu viewpoint that provide us with panoramic views of the Peruvannamuzhi Dam, Koorachundu, Perambra villages, and tiny islands
Situated in the center of Kozhikode, Kerala, the Tali Shiva Temple, also known as Tali Mahakshetram, is a Hindu temple devoted to the deity Shiva. The Calicut Zamorin family constructed the temple in the fourteenth century. The historic Tali Kshetram is located in the center of Kozhikode town and the ruling deity is Shiva. The Sanctum Sanctorum’s Jyothirlingam is thought to have been installed by Parasuraman. The temple is located one kilometer east of Kozhikode railway station. The market at Palayam encircles it. This was the Zamorin family temple, who had ruled Kozhikode.
Even though Malabar Devaswom currently oversees the temple, the Zamorin is the managing trustee. The temple was constructed in the manner of traditional Kerala architecture. The two-story sanctum sanctorum has a chariot-like form. It is decorated with granite statues of Shiva’s entourage and murals.
